This is how angry I was with the Facebook Beta app MSFT put out about a week or two ago. In terms of interface/UI, it looks exactly like iPhone, Android, or the regular FB mobile web portal. When I heard about the beta, I thought they’d improve on the previous FB app. Really it didn’t need a face lift. All it needed was for them to add more features/capabilities and fix the existing bugs. Anyway, my comment above pretty much sums up how I feel about FB Beta vs. the old Facebook app. It hurts seeing those 5 stars raving how good and nice looking the Beta is. Psst. Why did you get a WP if you’re gonna settle for another clone? Seriously I didn’t choose WP for this crap. At least I wasn’t alone. There are like… a couple out there that have the same problems.
I’m sort of with you bud, though there are strengths to Microsoft/Facebook adopting a style that’s like their other platforms - except with some Windows Phone swirled in, though only in light forms (see pivot in Notifications/Messages/Friend Requests, Comments/Likes, Main screen to get to online friends, menu of areas)
At least some of the others (Twitter, FourSquare, Tumblr) have been a little closer to the Windows Phone aesthetic and make the point of having the phone that much better.
And if nothing else, this outlines how a third party should explore how a Facebook app could be well implemented on Windows Phone. I’ve seen at least one good alternative on Android, a couple alright ones, though I use the Facebook app on my Nexus 7 - which is alright, not great.
